Dignty, screened in the San
Antonio Independent
Christian Film Festival on
November 11-13, 2004,
sponsored by
Vision Forum.
Film Ministry Main Page
We are very thankful for the vision of this Film
Festival, and for the opportunity to hear from
Christian film directors and to fellowship with
other Believers in this important area of
communication.  Surprisingly, many of the
insights did not come from the workshops or
films, but from the ways that our Lord spoke
through the fellow Believers in attendance
there.  We hope and pray that we can continue
to keep in touch with the precious fellow
servants and even work with them to make
films that communicate our Lord's message.
And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.  1 Cor. 9:8
Here are some of the
insights that we
received from our
Lord through this
experience.
No film is purely entertainment.  All film indoctrinates.
Even seemingly "neutral" messages may convey the idea that Christ is
irrelevant.  Therefore, we should be as careful to properly present the
Christ of Scripture in the many ways that messages are conveyed in film as
we are with our messages from the pulpit.
These were more noble than those in
Thessalonica, in that they received the word
with all readiness of mind, and searched the
scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:11
The most powerful messages come from the heart and spirit, and not the
brain.  Therefore, walking in the Spirit is more important than working in the flesh
to figure it all out, and meditating on Scripture is essential to have our Lord's
message.
Go on to the next good
work.
Do not allow yourselves to
be paralyzed by the idea that you
have to discern your entire life's
calling before you can even start
anything.
The integrity of the process is as important as the product. If this is truly a ministry and not
just a form of entertainment, then it should be conducted by spiritually-qualified people with the authority
structure of a God-ordained jurisdiction.  For this ministry to be effective, you have to take the equivalent of a
vow of poverty, setting all worldiness aside and everything that might distract you from following Christ.  Our
desire must be solely to please Christ and not man.  We must have pure motives and pure actions.  We must
also remain blameless and free from reproach in all of the ways that we conduct ourselves in this ministry.
Truly beneficial
Christian films are made
only by the grace of God
.
Therefore, anything that
distracts us from this goal will
lead us away from our
usefulness in this ministry.
If we make films for Christ, we will be persecuted.
There is a tremendous spiritual battle in this area.  Satan has a
stronghold on Hollywood, which he uses effectively to convey
his message.  He knows how powerful this is and does not want
to lose control over this medium.
Never just gloss over
the vileness in a film
.
Separate yourselves from all
filth and even the suggestion
of immorality.
See James
1:21.  Avoid hamas.
See
Habakkuk 1:2.
These are not all. They represent just of few of the things that the Lord is showing us about this important means of
communicating God's message.   We hope to continue to grow and apply these insights as the Lord allows, through the
production of more films to reach the lost and edify the saints of our Lord.
Here are just a few of our favorite films from the festival:
Awakening is a wonderful message of salvation by a Christian
homeschooling family in Wisconsin.  It deals with obstacles that people may
have to accepting the free gift of Salvation from God and frees us from our
bondage to sin.  It is edifying and appropriate for families.  We highly
recommend this film to everyone.

Journey East is a delightful allegory of the Christian life by a very creative
Christian missionary family in Kentucky, presently on mission to Costa Rica.
This was a great favorite around our home, and expecially among the children.
This family did an extraordinary job at special effects and the story was very
well done.  We highly recommend this film for the family, although it may seem
a little scary at times to the very young ones.

Theodore and Fink is a very enjoyable animation about obedience to
parents.  Our children thoroughly appreciated this film and hope to get a copy
someday.  It is edifying and appropriate for families.  We highly recommend
this film to everyone.

The Run From Cedar Creek is a wonderful story that presents the
Gospel message in the context of a creative and well-made Western.  It is
edifying and appropriate for families.  We highly recommend this film to
everyone.
The Smith family after a long day at the Film Festival
A young Christian cinematographer we met at the Film Festival.
From Genesis to Genes is an excellent summary of biological
principles for every Christian family.  It is particularly useful for
homeschooling families to use in teaching children biology from a true
understanding of creation.  It is the beginning of an important series on biology
that we are eager to see.  We highly recommend this film to everyone.
